ZMT offers international academics the opportunity to conduct research for a period of a time as a guest researcher at ZMT. Each year, up to five academics from tropical countries receive a NAM Fellowship, allowing them to spend up to three months conducting research at the institute and networking with colleagues. ZMT also welcomes holders of fellowships from the UN Nippon Foundation who work in science and policy areas in developing nations. As a member of the POGO network (Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean), the ZMT can also accept fellows from the POGO-SCOR fellowship program.
The Fellowship is intended, primarily, for Government officials as well as research fellows or lecturers who are involved in ocean law or maritime affairs, or related disciplines, either in Governments or educational institutions and bodies. The purpose of the Fellowship is to assist candidates to acquire additional knowledge of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, in order to promote its wider appreciation and application, and to enhance the specialized experience in those fields.
The IASC Fellowship Program was established in 2014 and is meant to engage early career researchers in the work of the IASC Working Groups (WGs): Atmosphere, Cryosphere, Marine, Social & Human, and Terrestrial. Each year, one Fellow per WG is chosen. In addition, since 2020, one IASC Indigenous Fellow is selected per year, who can choose which IASC WG to get engaged in.
The Fellowship Programme is a valuable part of the life of ICCROM. Its purpose is to bring fresh perspectives, facilitate the cross-exchange of knowledge and ideas, and stimulate new avenues of research which will enrich the field of heritage conservation. Through the programme, senior professionals who are nationals of ICCROM Member States or working in organisations therein can apply to undertake a period of study at ICCROM in order to pursue their own research.
Through its global programme on capacity-building and training, IMO offers a limited number of fellowships each year to support Government-nominated applicants from developing countries with a view to assisting participants enhance their maritime-related knowledge.
The Indigenous Leaders Conservation Fellowship focuses on supporting Indigenous peoples and elevating their voices in the dialogue around climate resilience and conservation. The fellowship offers individualized support to fellows, in an effort to enhance and expand leadership, as well as to provide learning opportunities and connections for personal and professional development.
International Fellowships have been in existence since 1917. The program provides support for women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and who intend to return to their home country to pursue a professional career. A limited number of awards are available for study outside of the U.S. (excluding the applicant’s home country) to women who are members of Graduate Women International (see the list of GWI affiliates). Both graduate and postgraduate studies at accredited U.S. institutions are supported.
The IPBES fellowship programme provides an opportunity for outstanding early-career individuals from all backgrounds and disciplines working on biodiversity and ecosystem services to participate in IPBES assessments. The fellows gain first-hand experience in participating in major multidisciplinary scientific assessments while working with, and being mentored by, leading experts. The programme is an integral part of IPBES work on capacity-building, and aims at developing the capacities of fellows in undertaking assessments, thus creating a pool of experts suited for contributing to future assessments and promoting the work of IPBES in their home countries and institutions.
The Ireland Fellows Programme aligns with the Irish Government’s commitment under Global Ireland and the national implementation plan for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Ireland's new Policy for International Development, and Ireland's International Education Strategy. A range of different strands are offered under the Programme. Each strand has a different focus in terms of eligible countries and subject areas.
The ISC Fellowship recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of science as a global public good. The Fellowship is the highest honour that can be conferred on an individual by the International Science Council.
Each year since 1998, the Link Foundation has awarded 12-week graduate student fellowships to conduct marine science research at the Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce. Students work in association with members of the Smithsonian professional research staff - either resident Marine Station investigators, or marine scientists from other Smithsonian entities who carry out a part of their research at the Station. The Pew Fellows Program in Marine Conservation supports mid-career scientists and other experts from around the world to advance knowledge and innovation in ocean protection.
This opportunity is open to applicants who hold a PhD qualification or expect to submit their PhD thesis before the fellowship interview takes place. Individuals demonstrating an upward track to pursuing working independently and developing research leadership are encouraged to apply. Applicants should not apply if they currently hold a tenured academic post or academic position at lecturer level (or equivalent position).
